***We were very busy this week learning about the groundhog and celebrating
our 100th day of
school! We have completed our research on skunks and have written our puppet
show. We will
be practicing this week to present our show to the other first grade classes
on Friday during our
e-slot time.
***Friday we will have our Valentine Celebration from 1:30-2:30. Please be
sure that your wizard
brings a valentine to exchange with each of his/her classmates. You can start
bringing in your cards on Monday (2/8). If you need a list of our class mates
just let me know.
Valentine's Day or Saint Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February
14 by many people throughout the world. In the English-speaking countries, it
is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by
sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery.
Here at school the children will have a party on Feb. 12th where they will
present Valentine cards that they have purchased and addressed ahead of time
to each of their classmates.. These cards can be found at any grocery store
in town.
***Wednesday is an early release day so that the teachers can attend staff
development meetings.
We will be meeting with our third grade buddies on Wednesday morning to make
Valentines for
some senior citizens!
*We are pleased to announce that the Wilson Publishing Company has opened for
business this

****Be sure to check out all of the opportunities to come into the classroom
for the second half of the year. We always need math game volunteers and
celebrity
readers. You can also help in computer lab on Monday mornings. We hope to be
starting

when
you can sign up to come in and help out! Sign up early so you won't miss out!

****Our school nurse, Mrs. Hand and Mrs. Richards have informed us that we
can no longer
have the students use hand sanitizer that contains alcohol to wash their hands
at school. I have found some hand sanitizer at Target that is alcohol free and
fragrance free. We will be using it at times in the classroom. Please do not
send any hand sanitizer with your child to school that contains alcohol. I
would be happy
to accept any donations of non-alcohol based hand cleaner for our classroom.
We are
trying to do our best to keep everyone safe and healthy in first grade!****
THANK YOU TO THE FAMILIES THAT HAVE SENT IN HAND SANITIZER FOR OUR CLASS!
We have plenty for now. I will let you know if we start to run low!
*****Parents,
Please remember to keep you child at home if they are sick. The district
policy is that they are fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing
medication, before returning to school. A fever is any temperature over
100.4. This policy can be found in the student handbook, on the district
website, and the Laurel Mountain website.
In addition, if your student is diagnosed with flu they must remain out for 7
days or until fever free for 24 hours, whichever is longer. Please call the
school nurse at 464-4305 if your student is diagnosed with the flu.
We want to do everything we can to keep our students healthy during the flu
season! Please call us if you have any questions.
Thank you!
