About The Teacher

Welcome to 3rd grade!

My name is Rebecca Davies, and I will have the privilege of being your child’s
teacher this year. This will be my fifth year at Laurel Mountain, and my
fourth year on the 3rd grade team. Prior to moving to Austin in 2007, I taught
at P.S. 183 in New York City and worked as an educational consultant in
Minneapolis, MN.

I received my BA degree from Augsburg College in Minnesota, and last year I
completed my MA in School Psychology from the University of Minnesota and my
M.Ed. in Education from Concordia University. I am certified in both
elementary and special education. I am also certified to work with students
who are identified as English Language Learners and those who are TAG.
Throughout my career I have worked with a broad range of students across all
levels of elementary school from Pre-K through 5th grade.

When I am not in the classroom, I am enjoying spending time with my husband,
Mike. We were married on August 13, 2010 and have just bought our first house
this summer. As you can imagine, we’ve spent a great deal of the summer
unpacking boxes and setting up house. We live with our two dogs, Lola and Grace.

My love of education and my desire to be a teacher stem, in part, from my
childhood. As a child in Wisconsin, I was fortunate to have parents and
teachers who instilled a love of learning, and when I began considering a
career in education I knew there was no better spot than being in the
classroom. There is nothing more satisfying than watching a child’s face light
up when that concept they’ve been working so hard on finally clicks.

I love to bring new experiences into the classroom to make learning fun. Each
year is a little different, as I spend a great deal of time each summer
searching for the new and best research on learning. This means each group of
students has a unique third grade experience, while still learning the
essential skills necessary to be successful in fourth grade and beyond.

It is my goal to create a classroom community where students feel safe to
explore and grow as individuals while developing the skills they need to be
life-long learners, and I look forward to working together to help make this
your child’s best year yet!
