About The Teacher

A genuine passion to teach and a strong desire to learn create a
great teacher. I possess this passion and desire; this is why I became a
teacher. I also believe this is the reason I received Teacher of the Year
in 2000.
After graduating from UT in 1994 with a degree in Education, I moved to
Houston and taught for 2 years and then returned to Austin and taught for 2
years. I accepted my job at Laurel Mountain in 1998 making 2011 my 18th year
of teaching 3rd grade.
In the summer of 2006 I married my husband, Britt, who graduated
from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. On May 7, 2007 we were
blessed with a baby girl named Reese. She is an absolute joy!
I love my job at Laurel Mountain. I am rejuvenated every morning when
my students embrace me and cheerfully say, “Good morning!” Their passion to
learn pushes me to do my very best. I want to make every day exciting and
challenging; I want to create lessons that are captivating and engaging.
Students are energetic, enthusiastic learners when given the right
environment. They also have individual learning styles, and this is where I
play a key role. My challenge is to understand my students, so I may learn
how they learn, and what their passions are. Just as each plant needs
special care and attention, so does the child.
I promote a supportive classroom, where children not only gleam at their
own success, but also the success of their classmates. Students
continuously encourage one another to reach their individual goals. I foster
a love of learning. I enjoy that my students do not consider me their only
resource in the classroom. They also know that they are valuable resources
for others. Finally, my students and fellow teachers know that I want to be in
that classroom and I want to make a difference in their lives.
If you ever have any questions, please call me at school. My classroom
phone number is 464-4370. My conference time is 11:50-12:40 and you can reach
me after school. We have an exciting year ahead and I know that together we
can help your child have a successful third grade experience.
