What is a PRO Center?

The PRO Center stands for Parent Resource and Opportunity Center. It's a
parent room within a school where parents can gather to volunteer by helping
our teachers, gain access to valuable community resources, attend
educational workshops of interest to them, and make some new friends in the
process!

Why do we have a PRO Center?

The PRO Center is funded by the Safe Schools/Healthy Students (SSHS) grant.
The grant is a collaborative federal grant funded by the Departments of
Education, Health and Human Services, and Justice. The grant's goal is to
boost student achievement by providing a safe and healthy environment to our
students. The raptor system that our school uses to screen all visitors who
enter our building was the first major purchase made by the grant. How do
we create a healthy environment? Health is a broad term, relating to our
physical, mental, and social well-being. We realize that all families have
struggles. Our daily stresses and struggles can affect our ability as
parents to help our children to prepare for their school day. The grant
funds a Parent Support Specialist (me!) whose job it is to link outside
community help to parents in need.

What does the PRO Center look like?

It looks a little bit like your home, with a comfy couch and love seat!
There are long tables for parents to do teacher "busy" work. The best part
of all is that there are preschool toys for your little one to play with.
That is what I like most about the PRO Center! All of us have probably had
a time in our lives when we would love to volunteer at our school and for
our teacher, but our preschool or toddler children made it difficult...we
didn't want to disrupt the class in the process of helping our teacher!
Now, there's a place that our little ones can come and have fun too while
the parent completes teacher projects. Please stop by and see what it's
like!

What are the rules of the PRO Center?

1. We want everyone to treat the PRO Center like their home. If you make a
mess, clean it up!

2. We ask that all adults sign in on the sign in sheet that sits on the table
right underneath the bulletin board. Please list the numbers of children you
have with you too. I need to send monthly reports to the district office, so
please help me keep accurate records by signing in each time you visit.

3. There is hand sanitizer near the children's play area. Please use it,
especially during flu season. Let's all help to keep everyone healthy!

Can I reserve the PRO Center for a meeting?

Of course you can...the PRO Center is for Live Oak parents! But there is a
bit of a procedure to reserve the room. Please sign your name, number, and
event on the calendar next to the sign in sheet. If you are holding a meeting
on a Tues/Thurs during the school day, please note that Erik, our campus tech
guru, has his office in the room too and is on campus on those days. Please
be respectful of his space. If you can make your meeting on a M/W/F...that
would be better! After hours, staff needs to be present so please contact
Lydia to see if that can be arranged.
