Hello Everyone!
Welcome to Carver!
Your child’s first year in school is a learning year for parents as well. You learn how to let
go—a little bit! How you say goodbye in the morning will get your child’s day off to a good
start.
First, be sure to actually say goodbye. If you sneak away, it could make future mornings more
stressful for your child.
Second, say goodbye and leave. Lingering only makes it hard for you and your child. He/She
needs a chance to get into the activities of the class. Usually, when a parent lingers, the
child does not participate with his/her classmates in a relaxed manner.
Third, put on a brave face. Looking sad or saying how much you will miss your child will make
your child sad and uneasy. Often times, children will want to stay with you to make you feel
better not because they themselves are sad.
Fourth, some children respond well to a goodbye routine. Give a high five as they get out of
the car. Say something special every morning. Try one out!
Fifth, avoid getting angry if your child is having trouble saying goodbye. It will only make
the separation harder. Keep the goodbye short and sweet to make your child’s day start off
right.
Finally, remember we care about your child too! We will help him/her get used to the new
routines. All of us at Carver Kindergarten enjoy working with you and your child so feel free
to depend on us.
Sincerely,
