| Students can be seen in the Counselor's Office for a variety of reasons.
The following are provided: individual response services, support groups,
and classroom guidance lessons.
Currently, there are four social skills groups going on at Carver. They are
facilitated by a social worker from Hays-Caldwell Council on Alcohol & Drug
Abuse and a counselor from Connections Individual and Family Services, Inc.
We also have a Grief support group that is facilitated by a social worker
from Central Texas Medical Center Hospice. We feel blessed to have such
support from such wonderful community resources.
In addition, a school-based divorce support group called Banana Splits is in
the process of being formed. If you feel your child would benefit from such
a group (whether your relationship was long-term or a legal marriage) please
contact your child's teacher or me and we will get your child involved.
Other areas I see children is for individual interventions. Some are on-
going support while others are for a brief crisis intervention. Most
children will fall into the last catagory. We do have a play environment to
allow children to express their feelings and issues and I have play therapy
training.
Finally, I here as a resource for parents, teachers, and administrators. I
help provide behavioral interventions at home and in the classroom. I can
find outside resources for individual and family therapy. I am here for you
and your children. Please do not hesitate to stop by my office or give me a
call (398-0074).
Sincerely,
JoAnn Byrn, M.Ed. :-)
