| All Air Force Junior ROTC Cadets have been given a syllabus outlining their
assignments for each 9-week grading period. This syllabus outline has
all the dates that assignments are due to class. Please ask your child to
show you his/her syllabus. Academic class work that is given in class is
normally assigned with appropriate class time to complete it. Each cadet
has been issued a Cadet Guide for School Year 2007-2008. This is the
AFJROTC Bible for the entire AFJROTC program. It answers 99% of any
questions that you may have regarding this distinctive program.
PARENTS ARE ENCORAGED TO READ THE CADET GUIDE!
It includes: Standards of acceptable conduct; the proper wear of the
AFJROTC uniform and the correct placement of name tag, rank and any other
items that are worn on the uniform; cadet rank structure and promotion
system to name a few additional topics. ALL CADETS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE
INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THE 2007-2008 CADET GUIDE!
AS-1 First-year cadets (A Journey into Aviation History & LE 1-Citizenship,
Character and Air Force Tradition) should be reading from their textbooks at
least 15 to 30 minutes each evening. We are now studying the "Cadet Guide"
as a means to earn their AFJROTC Blue Uniform. This academic plan will go
hand-in-hand with instructions in basic Military Drill Movements and Air
Force Customs and Courtesies. Cadets are also expected to perform Military
Drill Movements at school functions, such as Lockhart High School
assemblies, rallies and sports activities. Academically, first-year cadets
will have MSgt Silva for their first 9-week grading period and will
transition to Captain Fiore for their second 9-week grading period. We do
this each semester. Captain Fiore will be teaching "A Journey into Aviation
History"--a history course from the perspective of aviation and its
contributions to civilization.
AS-2 Second-year cadets should be reading their textbooks for at least 15
to 30 minutes each evening, as well as doing the AS-2 workbook exercises
that go with the chapter readings. These are clearly stated on the syllabus
that each cadet received the first week of school. Second-year cadets will
have Captain Fiore for the first 9 weeks of the semester and then transition
to MSgt Silva for the second 9 weeks. This will be repeated the second
semester. AS-2 cadets are currently studying "Aviation Weather and Basic
Aerodynamics" as it applies to aviation. Later in the year (third 9-week
grading period), our studies will progress to "Global and Cultural Studies
of the Middle East." LE-2 with MSgt Silva (second and fourth 9-week grading
period) will cover "Communication, Awareness and Leadership."
AS-3 Third-year cadets currently have Captain Fiore and are
studying "Astronomy and Space Exploration." This will be on-going for both
first and third 9-week grading periods. Third-year cadets will have MSgt
Silva, who will instruct on "Life Skills and Career Oportunities" during the
second and fourth 9-week grading periods.
AS-4 Bringing it all together! Fourth-year cadets are responsible for the
practical and organizational operations of the Cadet Corps. These students
get to use their skills that were taught from the previous three years of
Air Force Junior ROTC. They apply practical and organizational operation
training from the ground, up! We discuss, in class, "Corps Management" and
apply these skills daily.
