Why do I have to memorize vocabulary?

Students need to know vocabulary in order to manipulate the language.

How can I memorize all those words?

There are different techniques depending on your learning style. Making
flash cards with English on one side and Spanish on the other helps many
people.
You can also break your list into sections and learn 10 or so words per day.
Some people have success writing the words over and over. Try a few
different ways and see what works for you. If you have access to the
internet at home, use the links shown on this website to practice vocabulary
from the chapter you are studying. See the parent letter for more tips.

Do I have to have Spanish to graduate from high school?

If you are class of '08 you are now required to take two years of a foreign
language. Students planning to attend college are often required to have 3
years. Check with Ms. Hess if you have questions about your college
requirements. The counselors can also answer your questions about required
subjects.

Everyone speaks English. Why should I have to learn Spanish?

Studies have shown that students who take foreign languages score higher on
the SAT and ACT. Learning another language helps you learn English
vocabulary because English has borrowed so much from other
languages. See this website for information
about the value of learning foreign languages or

Language?" http://www.ccflt.org/adfl1.htm

Why do you make us work so much?

Learning a language involves practice. I like to give my students every
opportunity to learn so we practice a lot.
