Welcome!
The 2008-09 school year will be the fifth year of the Health Science Technology Education
program at Lockhart ISD. This year the program will offer:
Medical Forensics (1 credit)at the Freshman campus and High School campus
Level I (1 credit) at the High School (Ms. Hellerud)
*meets Health requirement for graduation/ ACC Articulation
Level II (2 credits) at the High School (Ms. Hellerud)
*meets PE requirement for graduation/ ACC Articulation
Level III/ Pharmacy Technician (2 credits) at the High School
*meets PE requirement for graduation
Anatomy and Physiology/HS (1 credit)
The Level I class works on skills including CPR, First Aid, taking vital signs,
and clinical nursing skills practice in the classroom setting. Sophomore level and up.
Level II students begin clinical observation rotations in local health care
settings in Lockhart and Luling. Junior and Senior level class.
Level III is a work program focusing on Pharmacy Tech skills. Senior level class.
This course does not provide certification, but does give the student class materials to study
for the exam as well as a "foot in the door" to local pharmacies which may hire the student
after clinical rotations to complete the required hours for Pharmacy Technician(some hours may
be accumulated during school time).
All students are encouraged to join Health Occupations Students of America.

We now have articulation with ACC for HSTE Level I and II classes, allowing students to earn
college credit while still in High School.
The student's Social Security Number is required to enroll in the ACC system.
Grading Policy:
Tests 70% Daily Work 30%
Late Work:
On or before due date: Up to 100% of possible points.
No more than 5 days after due date: Up to 80% of possible points only.
After 5th day grace period: Up to 60% of possible points only.
Absences:
It is the student's responsiblity to come to me regarding work missed during
excused absences. The student will have two days to make up the work for each
day absent. No more than two clinical days may be missed in Level II.
