Community-Based Inst

Hi!
As our class year progresses, we are finding many interesting ways to
address IEP goals, and to have fun while we are learning.

On January 24th, our class travelled to Kyle. It was a rainy and rough day,
but we learned all about a program called, "I CAN." It is a transitional
program for graduates of HaysCISD. They are housed in a small historic home
known to the students and staff as the "White House". The students "walked"
us through a typical day which began with a meeting. At the meeting,
participants addressed grooming needs and daily assigned chores. They also
attended work-based learning programs. We went shopping after that at the
new HEB Plus, and ate pizza with our friends at the "White House". It was an
interesting trip.

We will continue to have a weekly visitor to our classroom once a week from
ARCIL, an Independent Living Center in San Marcos. We were surprised to
learn that our old teacher Mr, Brewer has left the agency. Our new teacher
is Nancy. We took her on a tour of the High School and talked about aspects
of independent learning thay we would like to investigate. She was
interested in helping us achieve some goals and we look forward to her next
visit.

We had a phone log activity in which we invited Katie from Bluebonnet Trails
to come to our classroom the week after spring break. We expressed an
interest in how we would like to learn a lot more about the MHMR program in
Lockhart. We had so many questions for her that we ran out of time. We look
forward to her visit.

These are few of our current happenings and upcoming events...We are having
great year!

Thanks for reading about our new plans and recent experiences...
