For the first several weeks of school, all
students in my classes will go through my writing
boot camp.
This will not only strengthen the students'
writing abilities, but will also improve their confidence in writing for the
remainder of the year and beyond. Many times it is difficult to get students
writing because they are uncomfortable or skeptical of their ability in that
area. Once everyone has the same basics and understands the mechanics and
formulas for good writing, it becomes less of a big ordeal for students to get
through.
Use this page as a resource for writing boot camp
to ensure each student truly grasps the basic ideals of the writing process.
Writing is a process,
it is not just a one-step undertaking. Once students realize that it is a true
multi-step process and embrace it, they will become better writers. Writing
boot camp's purpose is to show students the entire process and have them
practice it so that it becomes second nature to them. The goal is to have
students utilize the process every time that they write, whether it is
school-related or not. Not only will their confidence levels in writing go up,
but test scores and quality of work in other classes will also improve just by
embracing the process of writing. This is an essential and valuable life skill
that they can take with them when they leave LHS.
