Required Summer Reading for AP-B and AP-C Physics

15 Page Summary in your Composition Book

(Worth 100 major grade points… one test grade)

Due 1stDay of school August 2012

Each chapter must be summarized or outlined in your comp book (one Chapter per page, NO MORE THAN ONE PAGE)… the first 15 pages of your comp book will be a book summary of Quantum Mechanics, General and Special relativity, String theory, and Super String Theory. Each chapter/page will be worth “about” 6.7 major grade points. Comp Books and Chapter reviews will be graded at the end of the 1st6 weeks.

(note: do not wait until school starts to get the summaries done, you will not have time once we start with homework and tests… AP physics is very intense)

For each chapter you will need to write a half page summary over the chapter as well as any ideas or questions you would like to discuss or find the answers to during the summer book club meetings or on your own over the summer. Each chapter should be titled on the top of every right hand page with the month the chapter was read in the very top right hand corner.  Thus, the first 15 pages in your comp book will be the book summary of “Elegant Universe”. A detailed description will be outlined on the back of this page. Points will be taken off for skipped, mismarked, not clearly marked pages in your comp book. Each infraction will result in 5 points taken off your grade.

Attendance at book club is not required but will be useful in writing chapter reviews. Books are available to check out over the summer with Mr. Ventura, but it would be in your best interest to buy your own so you can make notes in it. This is a book you will want to keep and read over and over. Friends and family are welcome to attend the book club if they are actively reading and participating in the discussion.

Meeting updates will be posted on Café Yolly’s Facebook page.
