Well, we were the best world travelers ever! We had the best time visiting Israel, Mexico, Africa, China and Germany. We learned holiday customs, traditions, and interesting facts and foods from each country. It was so fun! We also worked in Letter Kk and Letter Vv, sight words, "sound manipulations", and finished the ordinal numbers chapter!
This week will be an awesome week as well! We will read as many Christmas books as we can squeeze in! We will do many fun learning activities with a Christmas theme. We will write a letter to Santa for our journals. Our sight words will be "said" and "up". We will work on blending word parts--breaking up a word and putting it back together again--taking off beginning sounds, and taking off ending sounds. We will continue to read our "mystery" sentences on the board ALMOST every morning.
In Social Studies, we will continue to talk about traditions, Christmas, and other holidays that are celebrated in the United States. We will introduce the "new year," and take a look back at major events in 2009.
In Science, we will review our senses, by talking about what we see, hear, taste, smell, and touch during the holiday season.
I plan on meeting with Reading Groups this weeks at least a little bit, but will not send books home. Please continue to work on sight words.
In Math, we will do several Christmas pages with Math concepts. We will do one on graphing, left/right, counting by 2's, days of the week/months of the year, etc.
We will finish the week with a fun time with our Reading Buddies, sharing hot chocolate and holiday cookies! THEN, the day will end with our Holiday Class Party! What fun!
