How do you celebrate birthdays for children in the classroom?

Each child receives a book and birthday sticker for his/her birthday from
me! We also sing "Happy Birthday" to the birthday child! You can send in
treats if you like, but district policy states that they be "store-bought"
treats. I think the birthday child and class would really enjoy it if you
would like to send in treats, but it is not a "must" at all! We will
celebrate "half" birthdays beginning in January. June birthdays will be
celebrated on the same date in January, July birthdays in February, and
August birthdays in March.

What kind of sleep-mat does my child need?

I recommend that your child bring either a bath-size towel or a king-size
pillow case. Either of these will fit easily in his/her cubby, and is easy
to fold and put away. Please no pillows because we just do not have a place
to keep them! I will send their "sleep things" home on Friday, and then they
can bring them back on Monday--fresh and clean!

What kind of snacks are appropriate for school?

We ask that the children bring one healthy snack, and a drink if they want.
These will go in their cubby, and will have to be eaten and put away in
about ten-to-fifteen minutes.

How can I help in the classroom?

PTO helps us coordinate Parent Readers and our holiday parties. I also use
helpers during our small group reading time. It is a big help as I work with
small reading groups to have a parent to help students working
independently. I also have items that can be worked on at home and returned
with your child. As the year progresses, we will need help with special
theme events and large projects. ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!
