Homework

This week, we will have one of our regular homework pages coming home in the
Tuesday folder, due Friday. Stretching will also continue. Please continue
working on letter SOUNDS with your alphabet flashcards and sight word/color
word cards. A small amount of time spent on these two sets of flashcards
each night will boost your child's confidence, and help them succeed in
intial reading activities.

In math, we are beginning a unit on patterning. Practicing with patterns in
your daily routine, would be great! In our calendar, we continue to talk
about place value. Students know that we put ten "clips" together, and then
move it over to the tens place. The ones column is single "clips". This is
a good concept to review.

Most importantly, please read to your child each day/evening. This will help
them develop a love for reading, and a desire to want to learn to read. As
you read, and we work on letter sounds, it will "click" and before long,
they will be reading to you!

We will have a homework chart in our classroom. Each student will receive a
sticker for homework assignments. When they receive five stickers, they will
choose out of the treat basket! Students with ten stretching stickers will
get a piece of gum!

Thank you so much for helping your child at home. I appreciate you helping
to reinforce, practice, and reteach concepts we work on each day!

Lastly, please make the homework "fit" your child. If you feel it is too
difficult and they are becoming frustrated, please shorten it or simplify
it. If you feel it is too easy, make it more difficult by making words from
letters, having your student make sentences--whatever seems appropriate.
Homework is not graded for accuracy in Kindergarten, but students are given
a "completion check".

Thank you again for your support!
