Every night please read 15-20 minutes with your child. Most nights
there will be a book in your child's red folder they can read to you. Please
have them read to you and re-read their book several times. You may also read
other books to them or have them read to you. Please have your child write the
titles of the books you read in their reading log every night!
Spelling words are given at the beginning of each week and students are given
a spell check on Fridays to see if they have learned their words. When they
first receive their list they also take home two spelling activities to
complete by Friday.
Your child will also take home a reading response journal some nights.
Most nights I will give them something to write about that connects with their
reading homework. If not, they are to just respond in some way to something
they are reading (write about their favorite character, retell the story,
write what it reminds me of, etc.)
