What is differentiated instruction?
No classroom has all students on the same level, who learn in exactly the
same way, so a one-size-fits-all approach is not effective. Differentiating
instruction means creating multiple paths so that students of different
abilities, experience equally appropriate ways to absorb concepts as a part
of the daily learning process. In differentiated classrooms the core
understandings or objectives remain, but the teacher uses different
strategies, methods, and means to get the students there. It's not the same
way kids in the past were taught - but it's a more effective way for
students to learn.
Can I celebrate my child's birthday in class?
I do enjoy allowing parents to celebrate their child's birthday in class.
The following courtesies must be adhered to, however, if it is to work for
all:
1. Please give 1-2 days notice of the birthday for my lesson planning
purposes, and so I can get needed permission from the principal.
2. Please plan to come only at 3:00 PM. There is no other acceptable time
for birthday celebrations.
3. Please plan on bringing enough for a class of 18 students, including
plates and napkins.
Thanks in advance for making something fun work!
Can I reach you after hours?
I try to be as accessible to parents as possible. I always provide my
classroom phone number for any after hours question, from what to do with
the homework to
details of something that happened at school that day. I periodically check
my phone message throughout the evening. Additionally, I send out a weekly
newsletter and will update this web page weekly as well.
What is the best way to reach you during the school day?
Email is the best way to contact me during the school day. I will either
contact you by email or phone within 20 minutes. (kglomb@nyos.org)
