Be Excited About Reading
B.E.A.R.

for Kindergarten

September  - December

To encourage reading for pleasure as a habit.

The rules for Kindergarten are:

  1. Parents, please read to your child (or have him/her read to you) 20 minutes every day.
  2. In the BEAR booklet, have your child color in one of the bears. (only 1 bear per day--maximum possible--7 bears per week.)  Parent, please write the date in the blank next to the bear your child colored.  (Child, be sure to color the bear the color indicated for that section in the booklet.)
  3. After each 100 minutes of reading (5 days of reading at least 20 minutes), parent will sign the verification line.
  4. Your child will bring the bear booklet to the library during his/her interactive read aloud and will receive "tangible recognition" (a bear-related incentive to keep on reading).
  5. Booklets should be returned to the library no later than Thursday, December 19, 2008.

Congratulations, you have helped your child begin a habit of reading for pleasure regularly!
