Reading Program - 4TH GRADE

WRANGLERS READ!

  for 4th graders

September through May

The Library supports classroom use of Accelerated Reader through the "Wranglers Read" reading program.

Purpose: to encourage students to read and to develop reading comprehension

Procedure:

  1. Pick any one of the books in the library that has a yellow dot sticker on the binding.
  2. Read the book.
  3. Take the reading comprehension test for the book you read using the Accelerated Reader software. The number of points you'll get for this book will depend on the difficulty of the book and how well you remember and understood what you read.
  4. For each 10% increment of your goal that you reach, you will receive a Texas-shaped "dog tag" to add to your "dog tag" necklace. How many star-shaped dog tags will you end up with?
  5. When you reach 50% of your goal, your picture will be placed on the bulletin board in the main hallway.
  6. When you reach 100% of your goal, you may pick out a free paperback book to keep or choose an audio book to check out for one week.
Teachers work with students to determine a  reasonable goal for the program.  This goal is based on the student's reading level (as determined by district reading assessments) and progress which should be made by reading 1 hour each day.  Each student is given a bookmark which shows how many points s/he must earn to advance to the next level.
