The library is open from 7:30 to 3:30 every school day. How many books may students check out? Kindergarten and First grade students may check out 1 book. 2nd grade students may check out two books. 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students may check out two books and one magazine. Students need their I.D. cards to check out books. Grades K-1 For Grades K-1, checkouts are for 1 week. For Grades 2-5, checkouts are for 2 weeks. Students may renew their books for two more weeks by returning the books to the library to check them in and then recheck them out. What happens if my child loses thier I.D. card? The I.D. cards are for library and cafeteria use. Lost I.D. cards need to be reported to the classroom teachers. Replacement I.D. cards are $3.00. Old Town Elementary Library has a parent library section. Parents may check out five books at a time. Check outs are for two weeks. Parents are encouraged to check out books to read to their children. Please check the school library catalog for additional titles held by other RRISD school libraries. Interlibrary loan (borrowing books from other RRISD libraries) is a service offered to students and parents. Come in to the library to set up a parent account. May I volunteer in the library? Yes !! Parent volunteers repair books, re-shelve books, monitor the testing program, give out reading prizes, help students and teachers find and use resources in the library and on the Internet, scan images, help with bulletin boards and displays, distribute materials, read to and with children, help children select age-appropriate books, update software, and most importantly, offer a smiling, encouraging face to all of the patrons of our library. Please call 428-7613 or 428-7614 to volunteer. Does RRISD subscribe to online research databases? RRISD provides online periodical, reference, newspaper, current events, education testing, college reference, electronic books (ebooks), and two encyclopedia databases. How do I access the databases to which RRISD subscribes from home? Home access to the databases requires passwords. A copy of the passwords will go home in the student's folder. We are unable to post these passwords online as part of the subscription agreements. Please contact the library for further information. |
