We meet for reading groups and work in literacy stations each day. The kids
are doing so well following directions and working in their small groups!!
In math, we are working on money. The kids are exploring with coins are are
learnng to identify a penny, nickel, dime and quarter.
In science, we are learning about animals. We will discuss living vs.
nonliving things and then we will learn about animals and there
classifications. We will also learn about animal lifecycles. Our class will
be taking care of and observing an ant farm and we will be hatching chicks!
We will also visit the Science Lab and do many hands-on activities in class
to explore these concepts.
Our class participates in Writers Workshop each day. During this time, the
kids are introduced to writing concepts such as The Writing Process, parts
of speech, and mechanics, just to name a few. Then, the students write
stories in their writing notebooks at their own pace. During this process,
they will be conferencing with me and their peers about what they are
writing. Completed stories are then shared with the class during our Author
Share time. The writing concepts that we will be focusing on for the next
few weeks are: similes, sentence fluency/sentence structure and developing
characters.
Don't forget that we visit the library every Tuesday.
