Welcome to my teacher web page and welcome to Kindergarten!

The last month your child has been learning about the five senses and body parts, both inside and outside, and their functions. Over the last two weeks, we have discussed how community workers help our neighborhoods and cities as well as how we can help our community. In math, we have been learning about different kinds of patterns and exploring how to create, extend and predict them.

Currently, we are starting to investigate themes of growing, plant and tree life cycles, with a specific focus on apples and pumpkins. We will then focus on the theme of fall and seasonal changes. About the last two weeks of November, the subject of Thanksgiving, what it means, how it started and how we celebrate it presently, will be introduced. In the area of math, we started learning about 2D shapes last week and will continue to focus on recognizing, describing and creating shapes this week and next. For the months of November and December, we discuss numbers, making sets up to ten, the concept of more and less and same as, and showing numbers up to 30 using pictures and real objects. As always, problem solving and graphing are continously explored.

Your child will be bringing home their science, math, and writing notebooks/journals on a weekly or biweekly basis so please make sure to look over those with your child and discuss what they have been learning at home to help reinforce topics and skills. You may not always see lots of worksheets or papers coming home every week due to the fact that much work is done in the notebooks at school. Thanks to all parents for attending the conferences on Oct. 12th and enjoy the rest of October!
