How old must my child be to start school?
In accordance with state law, students who are five (5) years old
on or before September 1 are eligible for the kindergarten
program. A child may be enrolled in the first grade if he or she
is at least six (6) years of age at the beginning of the current
school year or has been enrolled in the first
grade, or completed kindergarten, in the public schools of
another state prior to transferring to the district (TEC 42.00(c))
When can we begin registering our students for Kindergarten next year?
The district has set Wednesday, April 7 as Kindergarten Roundup
from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. At that time you would need to bring the
required information to the school and fill out registration
papers. In May Pioneer Camp is held and this is a time for
incoming kindergarteners to visit the school and spend time in an
actual Kindergarten classroom.
All grade level registration for the following year can
begin after this date.
What information is required to register my student?
There are 4 things needed to register your student for school.
They are as follows: Birth Certificate, Social Security Card,
Immunizations and Proof of Residence. Proof of Residence if you
rent should be a copy of the signed lease. If you own your home,
proof of residence should be property tax statement, title to the
house or if newly purchased a copy of your contract.
If you are living with a friend or family member then they must
fill out a form and have it notarized saying you live with them.
They must then provide me with a copy of one of the previously
mentioned proof of residences. I am a notary and will be happy
to notarize the necessary document for no charge.
What is required to register my child for Pre-Kindergarten?
There are 5 ways you are eligible for Pre-K. The child
needs to have English as their second language, be econonmically
disadvantaged, be considered Homeless by the McKinney Vento Act,
have been in foster care or have a parent that is active
military. To qualify by language, the counselor or ESOL aide
will set a time for your child to be tested. To qualify by
income you will need to provide check stubs for the month prior
to the start of school. To qualify by a parent being active
military you must provide copies of military orders. If you are
qualifying as foster care, either currently or previously please
provide documents as to such.

What am I required to provide the school if my child is absent?
District policy requires a written note from you when your child
returns to school after being out. If your child misses 5 or
more days a note from the doctor is required. If your child is
out for a religious holiday, then a note should be submitted to
the office BEFORE the religious holiday occurs.
Although it is not required, a phone call to the office reporting
your child as absent is very helpful.
If I take my child out for a doctor's appointment will they be counted absent?
If your child is not physically in the building when the 9
o'clock bell rings, then they are considered absent. If they are
at a dentist, doctor or other health care provider and you supply
the office with a note from the doctor's office the absent will
not be counted.
