Mrs. Wesley’s Class
Welcome to our class! I am so excited to have you with us as we start a new
year! I want to give you some general information on the structure and
expectations of our classroom.
Discipline
Each day, a Student Responsibility sheet will go home. It will document
daily class behavior and work habits. It is to be signed by a parent and
returned by the next school day. As a team, the teachers will support and
encourage all students to do their best for a successful year!
Folders/Homework
Your child will be bringing home three different folders each week.
A “Take Home Folder” will be going home each Tuesday and Friday. Important
School or office information will be in this folder. Please read
through all of the information, take out the papers, and return the folders
the next day with any papers that might need to be signed. Some weeks we
will have more school papers than others. Don’t be concerned if there aren’t
many papers. Most of our activities are hands-on, oral, or documented in a
class journal and do not require paper that will go home. I will also
include a monthly class newsletter for your information.
Tuesday is also the day that I will send a “Homework Activity” home with your
child. Each week, I will send homework assignments. Home participation and
support is such a big part of your child’s success. These activities will be
a great way for you to become an active participant in what we will be doing
at school and help foster your child’s learning and development. The
activities will not be difficult or time consuming, but will reinforce skills
learned at school. Later during the year, your child will receive sight words
to study.
• A third folder will go home each Friday. It will be your
child’s “Reading Folder.” The purpose of this folder is to give your child
ownership of his/her learning, build vocabulary, and encourage reading
practice. Fun songs/rhymes will be included in the folder.
Lunch Count
Please discuss with your child each evening or morning about what he or she
will be having for lunch. The students will have three entrée choices in the
cafeteria, or they may be bringing their lunch to school. They will need to
give me this information each morning, and your assistance will make this
task much easier!
Snack
Healthy snack donations will be needed each week through- out the year which
we as a class will share. Parents will receive a snack schedule. This
works very well if everyone participates, and the children feel very excited
when it is their turn. I do understand that sometimes things come up and
some parents may not be able to send snacks. Please let me know by phone, e-
mail, note, or verbally if there is a problem, when itis your turn.
Snack/special cooking activities will be done in the afternoon. Flavored
drinks will not be allowed, but we do have a water fountain.
Star Student
Each week, we will have a student of the week. He or she will share special
things about themselves. A special notice will be sent home with specific
details concerning posters that will be used for the star student. When your
child is the Star Student, I will display their poster in the hallway.
Birthdays
Every child’s birthday is very special. In our classroom, we will celebrate
birthdays with a special song/activity. Parents may bring/send a special
birthday snack for this special occasion! Please schedule in advance before
sending birthday treats!
Clothes and Water
We cannot control temperature in our classrooms. If your child is cool by
nature, please send an extra sweater for him/her to use during the day. On
the flip side, it can also become warm. Your child may bring a bottle of
water with a flip top to use in the classroom as well. …In fact, I encourage
it. Our brains are made mostly of water, and we will be putting them to hard
work each day!
Sincerely,
Felecia Wesley
