The library at Purple Sage is
centrally located to provide easy access for all 430+
students, 62 staff members, and any parent who would like a library card. We
circulate over 14,000 books and 200 audio-books beginning on the first day of
school. The research facilities include numerous print sources, online union
catalog, online Worldbook, Grolier, SIRS discoverer, GALE-UXL Biography,
GALE-UXL Jr, Nettrekker,
Britannica, EBSCO, and
teacher-directed Internet connections.
The library operates on a
flexible schedule, offering story times and information search strategies in
cooperation with the classroom teacher. Year-long themes provide the backdrop
for the library's reading motivation programs. Students keep reading logs or
take tests on Accelerated Reader to earn recognition and rewards for pleasure
reading. Other annual programs incorporate the Texas Bluebonnet Award list,
National Children's Book Week, and National Library Week in conception.
Birthday Author Club meets regularly and Literary Luncheons provide an
opportunity for students to get together and discuss books they have read. We
host authors and storytellers annually to provide school-wide literature
enrichment.
