Welcome to a new year at Purple Sage! I am excited to be a Rider on the
Purple Sage team. Previous to becoming a Purple Sage Rider, I had the
privilege of working with students in our Lone Star state and the Midwest.
For the past three years, I have been, and will continue to
be, the speech teacher at Laurel Mountain Elementary. I look forward to
expanding my knowledge and experiences with Round Rock ISD. I also
developed and implemented the Language Expansion Articulation and Phonology
(LEAP) Program for Wylie ISD. I have also worked in Anna and Community
ISD. I received my B.S. at the University of Texas at Austin (Hook ‘Em
Horns!) and my M.S. at the University of Wisconsin at Madison (Go
Badgers!)
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my lively and compassionate
friends, family, husband and the best pug in the world, Mimi. I love to
read, eat, and spend time working in the yard.
The environment I establish in my classroom fosters creativity, learning and
fun! During this upcoming school year, your child will grow physically,
emotionally and academically. Every child is different, and I will honor
those differences as we work towards our phonology, articulation and
language goals.
As a teacher, I want to learn about your child’s passions. I want to know
your child as a complete person. What are his favorite books? What are her
favorite sports? This information will be exchanged in order to create an
individualized, interactive learning environment. For example, a student
worked on his articulation by researching about wolves. His speech
activities were revolved around generalizing the correct production of his
sounds through use of “wolf topics”. He was interested, motivated and made
gains! Another student worked on her narrative and oral presentation
skills. With time and hard work, she developed a book teaching other
students how to debate. In her book, she used “horses,” a personal passion,
to discuss the tenets of effective debating skills. She then presented her
book to classmates. She was proud of her efforts, improved her
communication skills and reinforced her learning by teaching others. I am
very proud of my scholarly students!
I am excited to be a proactive contributor to Purple Sage. Moreover, I am
only one piece of your child’s educational experiences. You are strongly
encouraged to have an active role in your child’s learning experience.
