Homework

The purpose of homework is to reinforce skills taught in the classroom. It
should not be difficult or
time consuming. In the beginning, parents should assist their children by
providing a structured
time and place to do the assignments given. You should be able to fade out
your level of assistance
later in the year.

Reading is ALWAYS , ALWAYS, ALWAYS part of your homework. For the first few
days, your child won't
have a decodable book or library book from school. Please feel free to
supplement with your own
books, or go to Starfall.com . Reading a more difficult book to your child
and discussing the story is also a great way to foster good
comprehension skills.

Homework is given Monday through Thursday. In addition to reading, one to
two assignments per
day, (usually one in math and one in reading/language arts) are given.

Students who do not return homework do it in study hall (held during
recess). If there is a family emergency and homework doesn't get done, let
me know. I don't like to
give kids consequences for things they are not in control of.

WEEK OF SEPT 1

For the next 26 days we will be doing one letter of the alphabet per night.
Children should practice writing the letter and draw 3 things on the back
that start with that letter.
