Welcome
to Reds Math, Science & Technology Magnet Program, begun in
1986, which enhances our regular classroom curriculum. The math, computer,
and science classes encompass setting challenging expectations for academic
performance for all students; improving their ability to utilize higher
order thinking skills, promoting responsible student decision making,
implementing programs that heighten self-esteem; and providing proven
technology and hands-on experiences to influence student knowledge and
skills

Our
computer lab is organized so that every student works independently at
a computer stations and has supervised access to the Internet. Hardware
is updated yearly because of the support of our generous PTO. A tremendous
software library enables students to utilize technology, real-life mathematical
and science experiences, and higher-level problem-solving skills. Desktop
publishing and participating in the Digital Book Fair are opportunities
open to all students. In addition to developing keyboarding skills and
computer literacy, students also conduct teacher guided searches and research
projects using the Internet.

Every student
at Red has many opportunities to become actively involved in science. In
their weekly labs, students explore topics from mealworms to green slime
to solar energy, using hands-on experimentation. We use our wonderful outdoor
lab for some of the more creative activities as well as the butterfly garden
and the west Texas garden. The science highlight of the year is our annual
Science Fair and Festival. We are proud of our Red students that regularly
excel and receive numerous trophies at the District Fair.

In
the math labs, our students use calculators, pentominoes, tangrams, pattern
blocks unifix cubes, base ten blocks, geoboards, money computer, toys
color tiles, games, puzzles, and other manipulatives to enhance institution.
Teams of students regularly work to solve problems and prove mathematical
challenges. Special activities of the year include Family Math & Technology
Saturday and Mathematical Olympiad. We offer these extra materials and
resources to make sure our students have the tools they need to become
good problem solvers of the future.
