SYLLABUS for Mr. Domecq's LANGUAGE! Dear Parents/Guardians, I will like to introduce myself to you and to make you aware of some of the requirements of this class. I am a native of New Orleans and “floated” here on the flood waters of Hurricane Katrina. My home and almost 30-year career in New Orleans was “blown away” by the hurricane. I was lucky enough to be hired in February of 2006 at Revere. For those who have welcomed so many of us to Houston, I truly thank you and I want you to know that I am working very hard to do the very best I can for your child. I promise to do “whatever it takes!” The grading scale that I use in the official Revere Middle School’s scale: 100 - 90 A 89 - 80 B 79 - 75 C 74 - 70 D 69 and below F Course Description: UNDER CONSTRUCTION Late and/or Incomplete Assignments: Incomplete Assignments turned in on time will be given 69% of the highest grade Late Incomplete Assignments will be given 60% of the highest grade. Late Completed Assignments will be given between 65% and 69.5% of the highest grade. No assignment will be accepted and/or counted toward a grade after the end of a marking period. Hall Pass: Your child will be held accountable for the use of his or her pass. I would like them to learn how to manage their own time. I tell them that they do not have ask permission, however, they should, out of respect, inform me because I am the teacher and have to sign their agenda. In most cases I will let them leave immediately unless something very important is being presented or there is some kind of situation in the halls. I will not issue any written passes that students request from my class without his or her agenda, that way you are able to keep track of how many times your child leaves the room. The agenda must accompany the pass (NOT just the pass page). Students must have their ID to use the pass and no passes will be given the first and last twenty minutes of class. Office Hours: Mondays, Tuesday, and Friday: 10:30 - 11:20 Wednesday: 11:55 - 12:40 Thursday: NONE Please call the office (713-917-3500) to make an appointment. Remember, there are no “stupid” questions - if you have any questions about what is going on in class please call me at home before 9pm. My home phone is 832-427-5228. The best way to get in touch, however, is via e-mail. Through email I can send you copies of notes, tests, etc. My e-mail address is: ldomecq@houstonisd.org L. Edward Domecq Instructor Language Arts Department P.S. All incomplete assignments can be completed before or after school with prior arrangements. I will NOT allow anyone to fail this class because they did not do the work!
