Syllabus

Introduction

My name is MONSIEUR PARRACK and I am excited to be your French teacher
this year! I have been teaching French for over 14 years, at middle school,
high school and college. I am from Lubbock, TX, went to school at Texas Tech
and UT, and have lived in Austin since 1996.

I have travelled extensively throughout France as well as Quebec (French
Canada). I have studied French linguistics (the structure of language) and
second language acquisition (how people learn a foreign language), and I also
have a solid background in French literature and culture.

I will remind you that French is a HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT course, and so it may
seem a little intense and fast-paced at times. You will be expected to show
the maturity and responsibility necessary to succeed in an advanced-level class.

I will be available for tutorials before school at Chisholm
Trail and after school at Ridgeview, as I will be splitting time between those
two campuses in the morning and afternoon.

French IA: Upon passing French IA, you will be eligible to take French
IB. Successfully completing IA and IB will give you one year of high school
French credit.

French IB: Upon passing French IB, you will be eligible to take
second-year French in high school.

Expectations: Choose to Succeed

In this class, you will be making choices that affect your learning and your
success. I hope that you will make positive choices. We will discuss in
class what some positive choices are. When you make positive choices, there
will be opportunities for reward. If you make poor choices, there will be
consequences that are in place to ensure that a better choice is made the
next time.

In order for you to be successful in French class, you must choose to practice
your vocabulary and review the day’s lessons at home on a daily basis. You
will also need to choose to participate in class to benefit yourself and your
classmates. Language is communication and it takes more than one person to
communicate.

Monsieur Parrack’s Classroom Expectations:

• Make Positive Choices
• Come to Class Ready to Participate
• Speak French Every Day
• Bottled Water Only
