system. Students can use it to find the right career,
explore education and training options, and build their own
portfolio. All current 7th graders received their log in
information last year during Mrs. Leverette's guidance lessons.
Mrs. Leverette will again be teaching classes October 18th-20th

The Student Services & College Career Readiness department has
purchased a wonderful online tool for college prep and career
planning that is free to all students.

From the RRISD district webpage, go to 'Students and Parents'.
From there click on 'Research Resources'. Move your mouse to the
right and click on 'Research Resources'. Scroll down until you
get to 'Careers/College Planning'. Click on the green rectangle
that says 'Testing and Education Reference Center'.

Students may also access this site from any computer with
internet access by going to http://www.nelnetsolutions.com/terc/

On this site you will find useful high school tools, college prep
tools, career tools, online books, and a family college planning
center. It includes an online resume builder, practice tests for
TAKS, AP, SAT, ACT, PSAT, and much more.

Students will have to register (takes only a minute to give an e-
mail address, first and last name, and have the student pick a
username and password). If the website is accessed from a
district computer, no other password is needed besides what they
create when they register. If the website is accessed from a
computer not in our district network (i.e. home, public library,
etc.), then they must provide a remote access username and
password. The remote access user name is: rrockisd, and the
remote access password is: remote. This user name and password
are not to be published (i.e. district websites, newsletters,
etc.), as this violates the agreement. Thus, students will have
to write it down in a place they will remember.

Harvard University Announcement
No tuition and no student loans

Harvard University announced over the weekend that from now on undergraduate
students from low-income families will pay no tuition. In making the
announcement, Harvard's president Lawrence H. Summers said, "When only ten
percent of the students in elite higher education come from families in the
lower half of the income distribution, we are not doing enough. We are not
doing enough in bringing elite higher education to the lower half of the
income distribution."

If you know of a family earning less than $60,000 a year with an honor
student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants to pay the
tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that from now on
undergraduate students from low-income families can go to Harvard for free...
no tuition and no student loans!
