For those interested in the RRISD Mentoring program, there will be a district- wide training held on December 4, 2009 at 2pm at the RRISD Administration Bldg. The training will last approximately one hour. Each month we will post a new parenting article under our informational flyers tab from Connect With Kids. We hope you find these articles useful and informative! Open Nominations for TAG begin November 16th.Nomination packets will be available in the counseling office beginning November 16th at 8am, completed referral paperwork and permission to test must be received by 4pm on Friday December 4th. Check out the world's largest online College Fair from November 4th-7th by clicking on the link at the bottom of our Career page. Last month 8th grade students explored career options through the OSCAR program. I encourage students and parents to continue visiting OSCAR to explore all of the resources provided by this informational program. OSCAR can be accessed through the career tab on this site. Students who were absent can do the interest inventory by going to the OSCAR website via the career tab and selecting I want to take the full flight-- Assessment--I want to do the interest profiler--Go to the profiler and follow the directions. At the end of the profiler an interest score will be shown along with a list of jobs that might be of interest. In continuing with career and college exploration, 8th graders will have the opportunity to explore the Princeton Review Future Finder program during the week of November 2-6. This program allows students to view information about hundreds of universities around the country. There is also scholarship information and interest inventories that they can explore. As freshman next year, they will be able to communicate with their H.S. counselor and exchange their college search information via the future finder program. Another informational site is Cappex.com. It has information on college and scholarship searches. .
