Ms. Proctor and Ms. Leverette will be conducting A Tiger Woods Action Plan group after school. Membership in this skill building group is by invitation based on student responses to our Guidance and Counseling Survey and parent permissions have been sent out to the invited 7th and 8th graders. The first group session will be November 17th at 3:30pm. Ms. Proctor is also currently screening for a Girl Empowerment group that will begin in late November. This group will meet once a week during 7th grade lunch for 6 weeks. Planned Spring semester groups include Changing Families and Loss Discovery. For 2009-2010 At the start of the year, students will complete a Counseling and Guidance Survey. If they are interested in participating in a counseling group they may indicate the type of group and the grade level counselor will meet with them to discuss the group and give them parent permission forms. Last year we offered the following groups: Loss Discovery- for students dealing with the death of a loved one. Changing Families- for any life change in a family such as divorce, remarriage, birth of a sibling, etc. Sense of Self Girls Group and Sense of Self Boys Group- middle school survival skills with topics including: decision making, organization and study tips, conflict resolution, self-esteem and friendships. Informational letters and parent permission forms will be sent home with students who indicate interest on the counselor survey or students who request them. Depending on the response, some groups will begin in the fall and some may not start until February/March. Groups last for 6 weeks and meet during the school day (lunch plus 15 minutes of an instructional period). Permission forms are due one week prior to the first session. Permissions received after a group has started will be held for the next group screening in March. Schedule for groups (all groups meet during the appropriate grade level lunch)
