Hi, my name is Mrs. Collins. I'm very excited to be your US History teacher
this year. This will be my 15th year teaching social studies.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of Texas at Austin in Government and a Master of Education
degree in Secondary Education from Texas State University. In 2007 I was
awarded Campus Teacher of the Year at Burnet MS in Austin ISD and in 2011 I
was awarded Campus Teacher of the Year here at Ridgeview MS. I belong to
several professional teacher organizations and enjoy reading education
journals to stay up to date in the teaching field. My areas of interest in
teaching are motivating reluctant learners and curriculum design. I hold
several teaching certificates including grades 4-8 History, grades 4-8
generalist, EC (early childhood)-4th grade, ESL (English as a second
language), and recently I earned my administrator certification. It is a
honor and privilege to teach your child.
Our mission is to explore US History from Beginnings to Reconstruction
analyzing the relationships between political, economic, geographic and
social themes. I'm excited because this year is an election year so we will
be able to learn the process for electing a President. We will follow the
issues in the Presidential election and explore where the candidates stand on
those issues. We will learn about the electoral college as well and track
the candidates progress in picking up the necessary 270 electoral votes.
