For many years, students with disabilities were on their own after leaving
the school system. Schools concentrated on helping students "get ready" for
employment by teaching prevocational skills in classroom settings. Upon
graduation, the responsibility for obtaining and keeping a job was
transferred to the student, family and adult agencies. Today, RRISD schools
are involved not only in preparing students for the world of work, but also
connecting them to this world. Building Workplace Success allows students
the opportunity to receive training at businesses and participate in
competitive employment in the integrated setting while enrolled in high
school.
