November 9th & 10th
Objective: Students will begin to explore the concepts of goal setting
and research with a particular interest toward long term education and career
choices.
1) *Short Writing 3-1*
Tell me what your idea dream job is. Describe it in detail including
responsibilities, salary, benefits, etc. Now list three concrete things that
you can do to get that dream job. Please be specific.
2.) Read orally from Literature Book "The First Appendectomy" pages 352-357.
3.) *Read orally from Time Magazine article, “The Way We’ll Work” from May
25, 2009 and answer the following questions.* Daily Grade
A.) What three ways will work change to in the future?
B.) What do these changes mean for you as a job seeker?
C.) Do you think these changes will make working easier or harder?
November 11th & 12th
1.) *Job versus Career Activity-define the two words job & career using a
dictionay. Draw a picture of someone doing a job & a career. Share with a
partner & write down in your own words the difference between the two.*
2.) *View the music video of "Its My Job" by Jimmy Buffet. Explain
through discussion the role that attitude plays in one's reaction to their
job/career.*
November 13th
1.) Career Fair or Introduction to Career Choices & Acamdemies

November 16th & 17th
Objective: Students will explore the myths and realities of what it takes to
make someone happy. More specifically a web quest career search should shed
light into how much salary is available and does it match my lifestyle
goals. Students will also read for deeper understanding the role of
repetition in literature.
1) Hand out grade strips that are accumulative and explain the semester
process. Update tracker to reflect your standing.
Set a semester goal and write it at the bottom of your tracker.
2) *Finish writing up your career presentation notes and hand in to the
alphabetizer. Career Fair attendees are exempt. Discuss common themes among
presenters. *
3) Go over web quest process.
4) *Take web quest in the lab. *
5) Return to class and read “Where Have You Gone Charming Billy?”
Discuss.
6.) *Short Writing 3-2: Do you think joining the military is a job or a
career?*
