About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
The 2011-2012 school year will be my 4th year teaching. I am from a small town in the east coast of Puerto Rico. After many years living in Florida, New York and Indiana, I managed to settle in Austin and have been in this area for around 13 years. My proudest accomplishments are my two kids, both graduates of Anderson High School in Austin ISD. My son works in the Austin area and my daughter will be a junior at Florida State University. My wife, Roxanne, is originally from Savannah, Georgia. Our favorite hobbies include mainly traveling, listening to Jazz, discussing current topics, but mostly, enjoying the elements of the Caribbean when we get a chance. Although my original college plan was to study Math and become a school teacher, events diverted my attention to Electrical Engineering (at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez). I later went to Purdue University where I attained an MS in both Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering. While working for IBM I also did graduate work at the University of Miami (mainly to attend great football games). My career at IBM and Freescale Semiconductor took me through many interesting challenges in high tech, in addition to giving me the opportunity and privilege to collaborate and learn from colleagues from many countries. At this moment in my life, I'm very happy to be back on track with my original plan, "teaching math". So, why teach? Simply because I believe that there is no better career than one which provides you with the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life every single day. It was a math teacher who inspired me to keep track of my goals and never to give up, especially during adversity. Quoting Nelson Mandela: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world".
Mission Label:
Mission
To provide the perspective that math can be challenging at times but fun to learn and master. I hope this will be an exciting year for all my students and guide them to success. I also want my students to have hope that going to college is attainable.
