MAJOR JEFFREY A. RAY

Major Jeff Ray retired from active Marine Corps service on July 1, 2009.
Major Ray enlisted in the United States Navy via the Seaman Apprentice Program and completed his recruit training at RTC, Great Lakes, Illinois in 1984. After a brief period as a nondesignated seaman, Seaman Recruit Ray was selected for training as a Cryptologic Technician and reported to Naval Technical Training Center, Corry Station, Pensacola, Florida. After completion of CTT "A" and CTT "C" school, Seaman Apprentice Ray received follow-on orders to Naval Security Group Activity, Adak, Alaska in January 1985. During this tour CTT3 Ray served as a Wideband / HFDF Operator and conducted several worldwide Direct Support Missions on U.S. Navy Ships with temporary assignments to Clark AFB and Subic Bay in the Philippines. In October of 1986 CTT3 Ray reported to Naval Communication Area Master Station, Eastern Pacific in Wahiawa, Hawaii where he served as Wideband/HFDF Operator / Supervisor and Net Control Operator with several Worldwide Deployment Missions on U.S. Navy Ships out of Naval Station Pearl Harbor as well as an assignment with Seal Delivery Vehicle Team One, Ford Island. In October 1988, CTT2 Ray was transferred to Naval Security Group Activity Skaggs Island in Northern California. During this tour CTT2 Ray served as a Wideband / HFDF Operator and advanced instructor. In November 1989, CTT2 Ray was reassigned to Naval Security Group Detachment, Treasure Island, California. During this tour he was promoted to CTT1 and served as the Detachment Leading Petty Officer. In October 1990 CTT1 Ray transferred to Naval Base Alameda, California where he served as an Outboard System Operator and deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In April 1992 CTT1 Ray was accepted into the United States Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Class and attended Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. In 1993 Candidate Ray was commissioned a Marine Corps Second Lieutenant with follow-on orders to the Marine Corps Basic Officers Course (TBS) in Quantico, Virginia. After TBS 2ndLt Ray was selected to serve as a Midshipmen Leadership Platoon Commander for U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen pursuing a Marine Option career. Upon conclusion of this assignment, 2ndLt Ray reported to Marine Corps Basic Communication Officers School, Quantico, Virginia with subsequent orders to the Cryptologic Division Officers Course, NTTC Corry Station, Pensacola, Florida in October 1995. 1stLt Ray's next assignment was to First Radio Battalion, Kaneohe, Hawaii in April 1996. During this tour he was promoted to the rank of Captain and served in many capacities including Mobile Electronic Warfare Support System Platoon Commander, Battalion S-2, Headquarters and Service Company Commanding Officer, and Aide de Camp / Protocol Officer for Commanding General, Vice Commanding General, Headquarters, Marine Corps Forces Pacific, Camp Smith, Hawaii. In April 1999 Captain Ray reported to Marine Corps Recruiting Station, San Francisco, California where he served as the Officer in Charge of Officer Selection and Training. Captain Ray then transferred to Headquarters, First Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California in September 2002, where he served as Assistant G-2 Operations Officer and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon conclusion of this assignment he was promoted to his present rank of Major and reported to Marine Air Group 39 where he served as the Group Intelligence Officer in Charge. In April 2004, Major Ray's next assignment took him to Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Quantico, Virginia where he served as the C4ISR Program Manager / Action Officer and Antiterrorism Force Protection Training Policy Officer. After a successful tour in Quantico, Major Ray reported to the Joint Information Operations Warfare Command, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During this tour Major Ray served as the Division Chief for the U.S. Central Command Intelligence Support Division.
Major Ray retired after his tour as the Division Chief for the U.S. Central Command Intelligence Support Division to assume his present position as Senior Marine Instructor at Round Rock High School. Major Ray is married to the former Miss Denise Le of San Jose, California and has four daughters, Felicia, Nicole, Madelyn and Emma Grace. |
