Tuesday Obj. – Students will find examples of sound devices (assonance and consonance) in a variety of texts and then interpret and analyze how these devices are used to affect the text.

Wednesday Obj. – Students will look at the use of repetition in poetry and analyze its purpose. Then they will write a poem using this device

- Parallel Poem (use of repetition)
- Define literary element - repetition (in PreAP vertical teams book pg 15)
- “Poetry Writing” workbook pg 35-36 – write a poem using the repetitive line “But time marches on” to illustrate events from their personal life in chronological order. Due Friday. (minor assessment grade)
- Verbs, Gerunds, Participles (-ing words) - Source APSI notebook 2005 pg 97-99
- Students will write a sentence using each of the –ing words
- They will then identify if the word is used as a verb, gerund, or participle. Then they will write 2 other sentences using the word as one of the other forms. (daily grade)
Thursday Obj. – Students will change trite words and phrases to more descriptive ones using imagery.

Friday Obj. – Students will recognize the difference in abstract and concrete nouns. They will use this recognition to write poetry that transforms abstract nouns to a concrete form.

- Brainstorm and write a pictogram poem (topic: holidays – Thanksgiving, Christmas, winter) – minor assessment grade (due Wednesday)
- Scrapbook Day – work on narratives for 3rd six weeks
