January 4-8
Bible Study: We start this new year by looking at the stories of two people, Simeon and Anna, who waited a life time to meet the Savior; and, who finally encountered Jesus as Mary and Joseph brought him to the temple as an infant. We will also be looking at the story of Jesus in the temple at the age of 12. Both of these stories illustrate the importance of connecting with God in his house, and making our worship of him a part of our lives.
Reading: While reading this week's selection "Life Cycle of A Pumpkin" the students will be recognizing that some statements are statements of fact and others are statements of opinion. They will be guided to learn the skill of asking themselves questions as they read-Can this statement be proved? Is this someone's thoughts or feelings?
Grammar: The students will review adjectives by focussing on adjectives that talk about size, shape, and number. They will recall that adjectives describe nouns-persons, places, and things, and will practice using adjectives in their writing.
Spelling: Our list this week has words with schwa sound of u. The words will have either a "u" or "oo" spelling making that sound.
Math: The children will be starting a new unit that will focus on data and graphing. This week they will taking a survey using tally marks, learning how to use a table, reading bar graphs, and making bar graphs.
