HOMEWORK:
Much of the homework given reinforces concepts we are working on in class.
Therefore, it is extremely important that each child completes the
assignments given and returns them on Friday each week.
Parents, you may help by checking over the work, looking for neatness,
thoroughness, and any consistent errors. There are many "teachable moments"
in homework. It is important that children not only hear educational
advice/instruction at school, but also at home.
Our math homework needs to be done and checked every night. Purchasing a set
of addition and subtraction facts to the sum of 18 would be a good idea. You
could then use these to review the facts prior to "testing" each evening.
Although your child may have the facts down, it never hurts to review.
Reading each evening for at least 15 minutes is essential for success in
school. At this age, it can be a combination of you reading to your child,
your child reading to you, or your child reading independently. Keep it fun
and intimate!
Start learning memory work on Monday evening and review it each evening
after that. Retention of memorization is better if done over a period of
time rather that cramming at the last minute.
Lastly, homework is not meant to be a burden on your child, or your family.
If there are questions or concerns, let us know and we will gladly work with
you.
