What We Are Doing

November 9-13

Bible Study: This week we continue to study the lives of men and women who were chosen by God to lead His people. While these people might be considered "heroes", the real hero of each of these stories is God. By the grace of God amazing things happened through the leadership of sinful and helpless humans. What made these leaders effective was their reliance on the action of God. As we study these stories the children will understand that by the power of the Holy Spirit they will also be able to overcome obstacles in their lives, and that they too can be used as young leaders in God's kingdom. This week we will be continuing to look at the lives of King Hezekiah and King Josiah.

Reading: While reading "Dear Juno", the students will continue learning how to summarize, and to draw conclusions as they read a selection.

Grammar:  This week the students will learn that when the subject of your sentence is talking about more than one person, place,or thing you so not add an "s" to the verb. Subjects talking about more than one require a verb with an "s"ending.

Spelling: Words this week have the long "o" vowel sound. Long "o" is usually spelled with an "o" before "st" and "ld" as well as at the end of a syllable. If it comes at the end of a word, it is spelled with "ow", and in the middle of a word, it is usually spelled with "oa".

Math: The children will review and test on 2 digit addition with and without regrouping, and will begin to work on 2 digit subtraction.
