May 24, 2012 Updated information about the Dannon party tomorrow - students will be outside for two and one-half hours.  They should wear a swimsuit under their clothes, bring a towel and change of clothes.  They should also wear some type of water shoes or sandals.  Please put sunscreen on before school. Snacks and water will be available at the party.  It's going to be great!  Hope to see some of you there! Please remind your students to bring their yearbooks tomorrow for signing.  We'll do that with the other second grade classes from 8:00 - 8:30 tomorrow. Thanks, Elise May 23, 2012 Reminder - tomorrow (Thurs.) is game day -students may bring board games and/or card games.  No electronics!  Also, tomorrow the students may bring a blanket, pillow, and stuffed animal as a reward for earning the Golden Cone at lunch again!  The pillows and stuffed animals need to be small to regular sized please! <IMG border=0 align=absMiddle src="/Controls/DHtmlEditor/Images/emsmile.gif">  A pillow pet counts as both! On Friday, for our party, please send a change of clothes and a towel!  Thanks, Elise May 20, 2012      Dear Parents, I'm sure that like me, you can't believe how quickly this year has flown by.  It's always seemed that the older I get, the faster time goes, but even the children have commented that second grade has gone by really fast!  With the end of school, there are many mixed emotions and this last week will be fun, but also bittersweet. If your child bought a yearbook, he or she may bring it back to school next week.  Students will be able to take their yearbooks out to recess for signing and we'll also have a yearbook signing time on Friday.  For those children who don't have a yearbook, we'll have an autograph sheet for them to use.  If you did not purchase a yearbook and would still like to, please contact the office.  Sometimes there are extras available. I will begin sending home some of their notebooks and supplies, so that they don't have to bring everything home on the last day.  Please send a shopping bag to school by Wednesday - a reusable bag or a paper bag would be best.  We're having a "game day" on Thursday.  Students may bring board games, but no electronics please.  It would be helpful if you would please put their names on the games and put any small pieces in a baggie also labeled with their names. We are also learning right to the end in our classroom!  This week we'll be writing summer vacation stories and writing photo essays of our favorite things about Spicewood and second grade. Students will be performing their reader's theater plays this week.   We're also reading and learning about animal habitats and working on multiplication and division in math.   For the past two weeks, Mrs. Ready has come into our class and taught the students yoga.  It's been wonderful and the students amaze me at how easily they remember the poses.  It is a calming, peaceful time in our classroom - much needed, especially at this time of year.  Hopefully, the children have shared some of their yoga learning at home with you!  This week we'll continue with yoga and acting out yoga stories the children have written. On Friday, we're having our amazing end of year party sponsored by Dannon!  Second grade will "party" from 8:45-11:15.  Then, we'll have lunch in our classrooms from 11:30-12:00.  Report cards will come home on Friday. It's going to be a great week and I'm sure it will fly by!  I will treasure these last days with your children and feel so lucky to have been their teacher this year.  <IMG border=0 align=absMiddle src="/Controls/DHtmlEditor/Images/emsmile.gif"> Fondly, Elise
