This week in math we will begin working with fractions. We will discuss
having whole items and dividing them into equal parts. On Wednesday, we will
do many activities that go along with our 100th Day of School celebration
including filling in the missing numbers on a 100 Chart and answering
questions about place value while using the 100 Chart. They will write about
what they would do if they had one hundred dollars and finish the sentence
prompt, "In 100 years..." They will also read the poem called, "100 is A
Lot!" then glue it into their Poetry notebook and write in response to, "If
you could have 100 of anything in the world, what would it be and why?"
Tuesday is Groundhog Day and we will be reading about it and doing activities
that go with it such as completing a Word Search, working with opposite
words, reviewing nouns, verbs, and adjectives and the long /a/ sound.
We will continue with our unit of inquiry called, Sharing the Planet by
having all of the animals back in our room this week that we had last week.
We will be observing and recording animal characteristics and looking at the
following three inquiries: Identifying characteristics of plants and
animals; How living things function; Natural resources and how they are
used. Students will fill in the chart of Animal Characterisics that tell
about each animal's appendages, outer covering, mouth structure, and
classification. They will also work on an activity called, "Odd One Out"
which requires that they circle the three animals in a group that are the
same in some way. They will also do an activity in which they circle the one
animal that is different and write why it is different.
We will be working in our Handwriting book this week and working on Unit 15
spelling words.
