February 5, 2010

Dear Parents,

In place of a Valentine Day party, we will be celebrating Chocolate Fever day
on Friday, February 12! We will read the book, Chocolate Fever, all week. On
Friday, Feb. 12, please send your child to school with spots on their face
(use as makeup pencil - no chocolate, please!)! We will help them find
the 'cure' for chocolate fever!! A note will be coming home in the Friday
folder explaining more!

Science Fair was a great success again this year! I loved hearing the
Spicewood students excitedly discussing what their projects were and what
they learned! All students are required to complete their own Science Fair
project beginning in 3rd grade. Our class used our owl learning to create a
wonderful science board, reflecting the research they completed on the Barred
Owl. Please praise your children for being creative, using communication, and
showing cooperation the entire time we were working! The ENTIRE board was
their idea, too! I just provided them with what they needed to learn! They
are truly amazing! Check out the blog for a picture!

On top of that, our own Harrison Jaeger placed 1st and will take his
wonderful project onto the Regional competition! We are so very proud of him!
There is a picture on the Blog of Harrison as well!

We will be winding down our UOI How the World Works this week. We have made
so many connections to how systems work and what makes up a system. Ask your
child to share their learning with you! Our next topic of study will be about
people who have influenced our world and symbols around the world and our
country. We will be asking for your help with researching an influential
person at home next week.

Even thought we will be ending our money unit in math, we will continue to
discuss money and how to count throughout the rest of the year. PLEASE
continue to count money at home, make change, and work with dollars if your
child is ready for this. All math practice is helpful for our young students!
We will begin estimating and measurement next week.

Wednesday, Feb. 10 is Early Release. School will be dismissed at 12:45.

Thank you and love,
Mrs. Dielmann
