Valentines-we have 21 students, so your child will need 20 valentines for our
party. Forgive the miscommunication on that. I copied Mrs. McGowan’s letter
and she only has 19 students! Please bring in valentines by Tuesday of next
week. Our party will be Friday at 1:30, please let me know if you plan on
attending.

Each year our 5th grade students put on an exhibition that acts as the
culmination of their PYP experience. As part of the school community teachers
act as mentors to groups of students. We work with small groups to help them
perform research and organize a report and presentation. This year I am
working with three 5th grade students who are studying the threat of nuclear
war. Every Tuesday throughout February and March, plus a few in May, the
students will be in our classroom on Tuesday between 7:45-8:00 am to work
with me. At this time we are working on Writer’s Workshop. I think it will
be exciting for our students to see me working with upper grade students, and
to be part of the exhibition process. If you have any questions about this,
please let me know.

Optional homework will come home again on Monday. This week the leveled
portion will be language. There are also many graphing worksheets that come
with our formal math program. These sheets are pretty easy, but will serve as
great review and practice for graphing. Next week’s research homework
involves finding out about one of our favorite authors.

We had a wonderful 100th day of school! It was very busy and full of
excitement! Thanks for sending in the 100 collections, we used them to
practice counting to 100 all week. Everyone enjoyed seeing the different
items, and it gave us all the chance to count o 100 at least 10 times. We
also drew what we would look like at 100 (some of us were VERY tall), and
wrote and drew about what we would and would not like 100 of! We played game.
Read stories and made necklaces and crowns as well!
