Math
Multiplication Facts
Call facts 0-12 out to your child every night.
Make flash cards on index cards, paper, or buy cards at the store.
Practice subtraction and addition facts also.
Reading
Read aloud with your child for 20 minutes every night using their AR
book. I would like everyone to make it to 100 points and become a member of
the 100 point club. I have prizes for different levels as they read more and
more books in our Accelerated Reading Program.
Science
Kids can learn so much just by observing nature and things in the world
around them. Talk to your kids about what they see and make predictions.
Being a scientist begins with asking questions and wanting to know answers
at an early age.
Handwriting and Spelling
We will have a spelling test every Thursday. Students will be expected
to print the words neatly as I call them out. Have them write the works each
night one or two times as you call them out. They can practice spelling the
words as well as work on improving their handwriting. They should also be
able to use their spelling words correctly in a sentence and understand the
meanings of the words. We will also take an oval test on Thursdays.
Every student in my class has a clipboard at their desk. As I hand out work
I tell them to put the assignment on their clipboard with the current
assignment on top. At the end of the day, I remind the class to pull all
incomplete classwork off their clipboard, place it in their take home
folder, and take it home for homework. They may write their homework
assignments down in a spiral or small assignment book if they choose. I feel
that this is teaching them responsibility and how to be organized. I try to
look through the papers that have been handed in during my conference, but I
tutor students just about everday during that period. I am not always able
to check in classwork that is handed in throughout the day by 3:10. I also
do most of my grading, lesson planning, and other essential tasks on the
weekends.
