How do I reach Mrs. Cusimano outside of school if I have a question?
You may call her at home--her number will be given out in class on the first
day--please call her before 10:30P.M.
--------------------------------------
Do I have homework?
You have a minimum of 30 minutes of homework every night, including reading,
writing, and reviewing material previously studied. Most nights your
homework will consist of reading, which is the primary component for success
in English class. Reading is indeed homework and the greatest predictor of
success in any English class. To read carefully is to succeed.
--------------------------------------
When can I make up missed work?
You have several days to make up a quiz, test, or daily grade if you are
absent from class. For instance, if you are absent on a Tuesday and you
return to class on Wednesday, then you have until Thursday to make up
work. An assigned teacher from the English Department will have weekly make-
up session during lunch on Thursday. Quizzes and tests will be made up
during lunch. All tests and quizzes will be made up on designated English
tutorial days. You may make up the test or quiz with any English teacher on
his/her tutorial day. If you are on a school approved trip, you must turn
in your work before you leave for the trip.
--------------------------------------
Do we have extra credit?
You will have the opportunity to experience extra credit one time a quarter
for extra credit.
--------------------------------------
What materials do I need for class?
You should bring a black pen, loose leaf paper, your required text, book,
your binder, and any handouts given previously.
--------------------------------------
How can I make an A in English this year?
You can make an A in English if you complete all of the following
requirements:
you carefully read all assignments and completely know the literary elements
of the readings; some assignments may require that you read them several
times to catch all of the nuances;
you study for essay tests that require critical thinking and essay writing;
you learn to write well, according to the specified writing type;
you turn in your work in a timely manner--it must be devoid of extraneous
errors;
you complete at least one rough draft of a paper before editing your writing
for a final draft;
you attend tutorials when you do not comprehend an assignment or a required
text.
--------------------------------------
What are Mrs. Cusimano's expectations for classroom behavior?
You must speak only when given permission.
You must respect everyone's desire to participate.
You must be in your seats at the commencement of class.
You must throw away your trash at the end of class.
You must be prepared for class.
You wait for the teacher to dismiss the class.

How will my grade be determined?
See the expectation sheet given out at the beginning of the year.
