Plans for May 5-9

Objectives: The students will update a scene from As You Like It and prepare 
the scene for a puppet show, using idfferent diction but maintaining the 
integrity of the scene.  The students will perform the puppet show befor the 
class.  The students will read and discuss Shakespearean and Petrarchan 
sonnets.

Presentation:
Monday--continue reading sonnets
Tuesday--Last day preparation for the puppet show
Wednesday--Puppet show performances and exam review.

Plans for April 28-May 2

Objectives: The students will update a scene from As You Like It and prepare 
the scene for a puppet show, using a different diction but maintaining the 
integrity of the scene.  The students will read and discuss Shakespearean 
sonnets and Petrarchan sonnets.

Monday and Thursday--Work on the puppet show in class, planning the scene to 
be updated, the types of puppets and costumes, and the parts.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday--Work on types of sonnets and how to read a 
sonnet.

Objectives: The students will read As You Like It aloud with comprehension 
and recognition of Shakespearean comedic elements. The students will add 
vocabulary to their schema.

Wednesday--Quiz on Acts I and II of As You Like It. Read Act III of As You 
Like It together.
Thursday--Friday--continue to read the play aloud.

Objectives: The students will read As You Like It aloud with comprehension 
and recognition of Shakespearean comedic elements.

Presentation:
Monday--The students will read as much of Act I as possible aloud, taking 
notes on characters and situations.
Tuesday--Continue to read aloud Act I and continue on to Act II.  Make a 
list of any questions that you have about the characters or plot.
Wednesday-Friday--Continue reading, selecting appropriate scenes as 
appropriate for the puppet show.

from Othello into their schema.

Tuesday--Research criticism on King Lear in the library.
Wednesday-Friday--LTD in class: a debate on whether the treatment of King 
Lear and Gloucester by their children is deserved.  Students must present 3 
quotations from the text--one from Acts I & II, one from Act III, and one 
from Acts IV & V--and support their choice of quotation; in addition, they 
must use a quotation from a critic that supports their side and explain how 
the quotation supports their side.

Tuesday--Begin reading Act V in class, especially paying careful attention 
to the repartee between the gravediggers and the gravedigger and Hamlet.

Thursday-Friday--discuss Act V; view the Branagh movie and critique its 
effectiveness.

Tuesday--Go over Acts I and II and begin to examine Act III which is due on 
Wednesday.  Give an overview of the exam.

all questions are asked.  Act IV is due on Friday. and Act V is due on next

language and characters of this play and the others read.

students will be able to write a multi-paragraph essay comparing and 
contrasting the Shakespearean comedic elements in The Tempest and A 
Midsummer Night's Dream.

The Summer Reading assignment is due on Thursday, August 16th for a grade; 
this assignment is to be typed.

You have an assignment due on Friday, August 17: you are to make a list of 5 
questions about Life of Pi that can be answered with a yes or a no answer.  
You may wish to write more than five questions since you will say your 
questions aloud during class, and once a question has been asked, it cannot 
be repeated. This assignment is to be typed also.

The Summer Reading test will be on Monday, August 20th.

Week of 8/20-8/24

Objectives: The students will be able to
write and answer questions about Life of Pi;
find facts about William Shakespeare's home, family, poetry, drama, 
authorship, tragedies, comedies, Elizabethan period, sources, and
write the Remembered Event essay as a template for a college essay.

Monday--Life of Pi Test

Tuesday--Research mini-project--Assign facets of Shakespeare to be presented 
next Monday: groups will find facts about home, his family, his wife's 
family, poetry, drama, authorship, tragedies, comedies, Elizabethan period, 
to present before the class in a creative but informative way.

Wednesday--College Essay  We will learn how to create a Remembered Event 
Essay that can be used as a college text.  We will follow the process of the 
essay and the rationale behind the essay by reading the prompts and 
previouly written examples for assistance.

Thursday--Expectation sheet quiz; Remembered Event essay--the selection 
process and narrowing and focus process of the event will occur.

Friday--Contined shaping of the Remembered Event Essay; background on the 
Anglo-Saxons;

Week of August 27-31

Objectives: The students will recognize and relate facts about Shakespeare's 
life and works in a creative manner.  The students will be able to recognize 
and identify the elements of a Shakespearean comedy. The students will be 
able to read A Midsummer Night's Dream with comprehension.  The students 
will begin shaping an event for their Remembered Event essay--the event and 
the message will be determined this week.  The students will complete 15 
vocabulary words for review on Thursday.

Experience:

Monday-Tuesday-Students will present their facts about facets of 
Shakespeare's life in a creative manner--the students will be responsible 
for knowing all of the material.  15 Vocabuary words will be assigned for 
Friday--the words must be typed, the page number delineated, the word  must 
be defined by the usage on the page, and the definition typed.  Act I of the 
play is due Friday.

Wednesday--Background on the play and on Shakespeare's idiosyncracies will 
be read together on Wednesday--found in the Folger's edition.  The students 
will share in pairs their Remembered Event information and refine it for 
Thursday.

Thursday--Share refined work on the Remembered Event essay--peers will 
review.  Vocabulary words will be checked.  Work on reading the act and 
reading with the proper inflection.

Friday--Students will ask questions on Act I of the play;  A quiz will ensue 
and Act I will be reviewed.

Homework and Measurements:

Monday-Tuesday-Assigned facts on Shakespeare; 15 vocabulary words due 
Thursday; Event definition and shaping for Wednesday.

Wednesday--Event shaping due; further refinement due Thursday

Thursday--15 Vocabulary words due; Refinement of event and essay due; 
questions about Act I due Friday

Friday--Act I questions and quiz
