How do I contact Mr. Jurick?
You can e-mail me at jurickp@stpiusx.org or just click on the 'e-mail' icon
in the upper right corner of the home page. You can also meet with me
before
or after school, or at lunch. I want you to be successful in my class, so I
will be avaliable to help you.
Can I turn in homework assignments late?
Well, that depends on which course you are in.
For THEOLOGY I: Yes, assignments will be accepted one (1) day late for a
possible 80 on the assignment. After that, it becomes a zero. You are
responsible for turning in the assignment if it is late -- I will not ask
you for it!
For WORLD RELIGIONS, BUSINESS LAW and INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS: No, late
assignments are
not accepted. As upper-classmen/women, you can take responsibility for
getting your work in on time.
How will I be evaluated in this class?
You will be evaluated through testing, projects, quizzes, homework, and
class participation. Your average will be calculated using the following
percentages:
Theology I:
Tests 45%
Quizzes 30%
Homework 20%
Participation 5%
Theology IV
Tests 45%
Quizzes 30%
Homework 25%
Business Law and International Business:
Tests/Projects 45%
Quizzes/Small Projects 30%
Homework 25%
Participation includes daily preparation for class, participation in class,
and behavior. Everyone begins the quarter with 100 points, and points are
deducted for infractions.
What are the classroom rules? What are the consequences for breaking these?
1. ALL rules in th Student Handbook apply to the students in this classroom.
2. Follow directions, both verbal and written.
3. Respect the rights and property of the other students and the teacher.
4. Raise your hand to speak.
5. Do not interrupt someone when they are talking.
6. Use appropriate language at all times.
7. Be prepared for class.
For each offense your participation grade (if applicable)will be lowered
three (3) points. After three offenses , your parents will be contacted and
the Dean of Students will get involved. (This, of course, depends upon the
severity of the offense.) If the behavior continues, the severity of the
consequences will increase.
When are tutorials?
Tutorials are on Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:00. You can also make an
appointment to meet with me.
What do you mean by 'respect'?
First of all, I define 'respect' as treating everyone with kindness and
courtesy as all are made in the image and likeness of God. I also see
respect as the following:
R -- responsibility => you are responsible for your own actions
E -- experience => we are all shaped by our own different experiences
S -- sacredness => all life is sacred
P -- preparation => come to class prepared to learn
E -- effort => if you put forth the effort, you will succeed in anything
C -- commitment => make the commitment to do your best everyday
T -- trust => trust that each of us will be shown the respect we deserve
In other words, just treat others as you would like to be treated.
Simple enough?
Does the Honor Pledge have to be on EVERYTHING I turn in? If so, why?
YES, the Honor Pledge has to be on everything you turn in to me -- no
exceptions! Any work that does not have the Honor Pledge WRITTEN
IN FULL AND SIGNED will recieve a zero.
Now, why is this so important? By writing the Honor Pledge on your work,
you are tell me (and the world) that you are an honorable person and the
work that you have done is your own, not stolen from someone else. If you
cheat or plagiarize, you dishonor yourself and your peers. How, then, can
your friends and teachers trust you?
What if I am absent?
If you are absent or miss a class, you are expected and are responsible for
obtaining the missed work. You will have the number of days absent
plus one day to turn this work in. In the case of a test or quiz,
arrangements will be made. In the case of a test, all make-up tests will be
given on the Wednesday after you return, at lunch. Please note: if you are
present for the review and absent the day of the test, you will take the
test on the day you return.
Do I have to use the Cornell style notes?
Yes. The Cornell note-taking system is an excellent way to organize and
study your notes. It may seem difficult at first, but you will soon see how
it can help you study for quizzes and tests.
